Small correction regarding my Rekord....

Originally, it had a vinyl roof (can't remember the color - black? brown?). Prior to the restoration, the metal underneath this got all rusted through the years. So figured it was wiser not to retain that.

Yesterday, after a bit of fine-tuning & a few minor changes... it's purring like a kitten again.   Tongue

nice restoration... i find 'restorers' amazing in the fact that against all odds they can still bring back and keep their cars in tip top shape... hope i could be one someday Cheesy

sana pagdating ng 2020 buhay pa tong site natin... para yung mga astra naman natin ang nakalagay dito na 'for restoration' or 'well kept'... hehehe...

Hi Sgl, wise decision to not put vinyl roof back. What u describe is a known problem with that.

Batman -  Labor of love lang talaga. Kasi when you really think of it, ang gastos talaga. And moreso with cars like our Rekords, the parts are quite difficult to find nowadays.

But the sense of accomplishment & pride one feels...... nothing like it!  Grin

Iceman - yup, the car/patient is out of ICU finally.  Cheesy

Are you passionate enough and been wanting to restore an Opel? Bring out all that juice in you and come prepared, batman. It's not actually that difficult with today's advanced telecom; everything is within reach.

May I ask how you were able to "preserve" that old-school beauty?  To be honest, I have not seen a well preserved/restored Rekord yet.

Though first-owners of our Rekord, it just sat in our covered garage for several years. Decided to kick some life back into it around 2000 or 2001 thereabouts. Never having done anything like this before, what I though would be a little repair-work snowballed into a major production- 99% of the restoration (replacing hydrovac and what seemed like a million other parts, paintwork, etc) took a year.

Since then it's been finding little bits in keeping with the original look of the Rekord.... with hopefully the last major replacement being the new Weber carb.

Restoration for this car (as with most old-school, classic or vintage vehicles) is definnitely a labor of  love coupled with its share of blood, sweat & tears (and spiced up with some profanity at times  Tongue).

Though not perfect, I think my 'ol gal can stilll turn a few heads.  Grin Until just recently, she's been a sleeping beauty (last I looked, think mileage was only about about 40k or so).

Haven't seen any well preserved/restored Rekords yet?  Smiley You may not have to wait much longer. Our Club is fortunate to have members like JC & his dad who have several old-school beauties (one of which is a Rekord Coupe).
